The Planet Poo
Chapter 1 - The Phooper

In a
galaxy
not so far
away
, there is a
planet
called Poo. 'Why is the
planet
called Poo?!' I hear you
asking,
well let me
answer
that for you. It's
because
the
entire
planet
is
mostly
made of
poo
-
huge
steaming
mountains
made
entirely
of
stinking
poo
. There are no
fish
swimming
in the
sea
because
all the
water
on the
planet
is
fetid
and
murky
brown
. If you
strayed
off the
paths
you would
quickly
sink
because
the
ground
underneath
the
grass
and the
trees
is all
soft
smelly
poo
.

It is not a very
nice
planet
to
live
on but
people
do
live
there, and in
particular
there was a boy called Leth. There was
nothing
extraordinary
about Leth, he wasn't
clever
, he didn't have any
remarkable
talents
nor was he good at
sports
. What makes him
different
from the
others
is his
love
of
working
hard
and his
special
dream
of making the
world
a
poo
free
place
. He
hated
living on a
planet
that was made
entirely
of
smelly
poo
, he wanted to do something about it, to make his home a
fresher
place
to
live
in.

There is a
reason
why the planet is made
entirely
of
poo
, it's because of a
certain
creature that
lives
exclusively
on this planet that the
people
call the 'Phooper'.

A
squat
and
bulbous
animal no larger than an Earth
hippopotamus
and has six short
stumpy
legs. Its fat,
gelatinous
body is
covered
by
lumpy
multi
-coloured spots and green
slippery
skin
. It looked
rather
like a
walking
lime
jelly
dessert
with a
topping
of
mixed
berries
.

Its
head
, on the
other
hand
, is not
quite
as
appealing
to look at; its
knobbly
head
has a
face
full of long
tentacles
, and in the
middle
of those
wriggling
tentacles
is its
mouth
which is on the end of a long
trunk
. It has eight
beady
eyes
that go all
around
its
head
so it can see all the
foods
that it
loves
to
eat
, and oh boy can it
eat
! That's all it does, all
day
and
night
, because it doesn't
need
sleep
and it
never
gets full up. It just
eats
and
poops
constantly
-
great
big
smelly
football
sized
droppings
!

Even though the Phooper is
constantly
pooping
all
day
long, it does do something very
special
; every one thousand or so
poos
that it
poops
out, it will
poop
out a magnificent and
extraordinary
golden
poo
.

This large golden metallic dropping emits a faint glistening glow, and in sunlight it sparkles as if it was
covered
in a million diamonds. But the most amazing thing about this golden
poo
(or Goop as the
people
affectionately call it) is that it's super charged full of electrical energy and only one of them could power an entire city for a
day
! That is why everyone on the planet has a pet Phooper, some even have several, because who wouldn't want to plop a Goop into their car and have it running for a year?

Power stations have thousands of Phoopers all
pooping
on conveyer belts with machines that sort out and collect the golden
poos
. There are Phooper farms everywhere that have hundreds of them all
pooping
out on the fields with dozens of farmhands digging through the muck to collect the golden treasure.

But what did they do with the tons and tons of foul-smelling yucky waste
poo
? They disposed of it, of course, by pumping it away into the
sea
and dumping it outside the cities. Inevitably the whole planet got
covered
in
poo
, the leaves on the
trees
got
covered
in
brown
gunk because the rain had
poo
sediment in it, the air turned yellow and there was a stench of
poo
everywhere; the entire planet slowly turned
brown
.

It is definitely not the cleanest solution of obtaining electricity but it is by far the easiest way to produce
huge
amounts of power; and so, the
people
on the planet absolutely
loved
Phoopers as they had so many electrical devices that required charging.

Chapter 2 - Eureka!

It was just an ordinary
day
and Leth was doing his daily chores before going to school. Just the normal everyday stuff that
people
on the planet
poo
did, such as turning on the Crud Cleanser Cannon on top of the house.

It looked like a giant
water
pistol on top of the roof that sprayed disinfectant at high speed. With a high-pitched hissing sound, it blasted all the disgusting sludge off the house that coated it like a thin layer of reeking chocolate.

Next Leth had to change the filters from the air purification fan which were yellow and slimy from a day's
work
of de-
stinking
the air inside the house.

Finally, he had to use the
great
big Excrement Extractor machine to suck up the hefty hill of
poo
in his back garden that 'Spotty' his pet Phooper had produced during the
night
.

His next-door neighbour and best friend Tigtig had three pet Phoopers and he was already busy sucking up the
poo
with his Excrement Extractor.

"Hey Leth!" Tigtig yelled over the background 'thunk, thunk, thunk' noise of the machine. Leth looked up and nodded at his friend who was standing on top of a massive mound of foul-smelling muck at least 10 metres high. The
soft
pipe of the extractor throbbed in Tigtig's arms as it slowly pumped the waste matter into the sewers and away to the
sea
.

Tigtig's
face
grimaced with disapproval as he looked towards Leth and whimpered "urgh, it smells so bad today, I think I'm going to vomit". Leth couldn't help but feel sympathy for his best friend because he thoroughly detested living a life that was so horribly
smelly
, polluted and ugly. He waved to Tigtig to come down and hollered "Hey Tig! Put the extractors on automatic and let's go to school early".

Leth didn't
particularly
like going to school, he didn't
particularly
hate
it either, but he knew deep down that if he were to change the
world
it would be best if he knew as many things as possible. He understood that creating stuff, making inventions and solving problems were a lot easier if you knew a lot of things - a vast amount of knowledge makes it easier to solve bigger problems!

He
worked
hard
in all his classes, learning as much as he could about everything; he wanted to invent something to clean up the planet, so he liked science classes the most and picked as many science clubs and classes as was possible to attend.

He once had a
great
idea for an invention that would launch all the
poo
into space, he would call it the Excrement Ejector and it would be attached to the Excrement Extractor. It would clean up the planet but it would unfortunately pollute the entire galaxy! So Leth scrapped that idea..

Today in science lesson Tigtig was assembling magnetic superconductors, as usual, because he
loved
hoverboarding, it was his favourite hobby.Leth was doing a study on the Goops - the wondrous golden
droppings
of pure power; the ones he was doing his analysis on were inert of course, they were powerless and
quite
safe to touch.

Today he noticed something about them that he
never
noticed before, that they were
quite
warm even though it was a really cold day. All the
other
apparatus on the table were stone cold but the Goops were abnormally warm, so he went and checked the
other
Goops in the cupboard but they were cold.

'Hmm... the only difference between them were that the Goops in the cupboard were in the dark and the ones on the table were exposed to light' Leth thought to himself.

He grabbed a Goop under each arm and plonked them down by the biggest window and beckoned Tigtig to come over. "Touch the Goops, don't they feel kind of hot? I think they absorb light" Leth told Tigtig.

Tigtig reached out with his arm to give them a feel but he was still holding one of the big magnets in his
hand
and with a loud clunk it stuck on to the Goop. The golden sphere immediately started vibrating as soon as the magnet touched it; the two things combined
certainly
caused some kind of reaction in the Goop as within moments it started to sparkle a little bit.

Tigtig poked it with his finger, there was a crackle and a pop and Tigtig let out a yelp "Ouch! It shocked me!". Leth's
eyes
widened with glee as he shouted out "Eureka! The Goops can be recharged by sunlight and magnets!"

Chapter 3 - To Change, or not to Change, that is the Question

With his new found discovery, Leth's path towards his
dream
of changing the
world
was well and truly underway. He started to imagine living in a
world
of green
trees
, blue
seas
and
fresh
air.

'Where do we begin and what should we change first?' He pondered to himself. "Let's start with the farms! So instead of feeding Phoopers and collecting Goops, they could simply collect empty used Goops and recharge them to sell. That will put an end to the 1.5 billion farm Phoopers
pooping
on the planet!" Leth said to Tigtig.

Tigtig had decided to team up with Leth's pursuit of a beautiful unpolluted
world
; just thinking about not needing to use the Excrement Extractor every morning gave him joyful motivation. "That's a
great
idea! There are Phooper farms everywhere, and we even have seven farms close by inside our city, let's go visit them on the weekend" Tigtig replied.

It was Saturday morning and they just arrived at Gulliver's Goop Galore farm, Gulliver the farm owner came out to greet them. "'Ello my handsomes" he beamed, with a grin from ear to ear.

A tall slender man stood before them, his weathered
skin
was brown like overdone toast and his dry sun-bleached hair looked like a
head
of yellow straw. He was wearing a Sludge Suit, which is a skin-tight rubber suit coated with a
special
slippery
black varnish that stops
poo
from sticking to it - it made him look like a life-sized stick man.

There were still splodges of
poo
on his
face
, his hair was speckled with bits of
brown
and his
hands
were
covered
in crusty filth. "Just come from the Phooper fields, I have, lemme clean myself up, follow me and tell me more about what you told me earlier over the phone".

While Gulliver was hosing himself down, Leth explained his discovery in detail and his suggestion on how to change the farm.

"...so Mr. Gulliver you could use magnets and recharge empty Goops to sell, then you won't have to keep Phoopers anymore, and you can use the land to grow fruits and vegetables instead!".

The grinning farmer looked at the boys and his lips separated into a
huge
smile "How much money can I make selling fruits and vegetables?! Not much at all! I'm going to keep all my Phoopers AND I'm going to recharge and sell Goops, I'm going to make even more money that way!". And with that Gulliver shook the boys'
hands
and skipped away back to the fields, his prancing silhouette like a dancing dolly in the distance.

"Well that didn't go to plan" Tigtig glumly said to Leth. "No, it didn't at all, but let's keep trying with the
other
farms in the city" Leth said with a look of encouragement to his friend. And tried they did, but the
other
six farms all had the same result; they all saw it as an opportunity to produce more Goops and make more money, nobody saw it as an opportunity to clean up the planet.

The boys trudged home dragging their feet after a long day of disappointing results. Leth turned to Tigtig to wave goodnight and said "Tomorrow we'll go to the power station and pitch our discovery to them, surely they will love the idea of renewable energy". Tigtig nodded to Leth and gave him a thumbs up as the boys called it a day.

The next morning the boys got on their hoverboards and zoomed down to their local power station together. After going through several security checks and x-ray scans, they were sent into a brightly lit white painted room to wait for the manager. They waited there for what felt like hours until finally a stern looking woman came in; her
face
was screwed up with furrowed eyebrows, squinted
eyes
and pursed lips. "Hello, I'm Harriet, you spoke to me earlier on the phone, I've considered what you told me and frankly I'm
quite
concerned" she said, looking at them with complete seriousness. The two boys looked at each
other
with bewilderment and then returned their gaze back to the grey suited woman and waited for her to continue speaking.

"You two really don't get it do you? We're a power station and we're in the business of selling electricity. Collecting Goops on a conveyor belt by feeding Phoopers is cheap and easy. Whereas using a complicated system of electromagnets to recharge Goops would be costly and cut into our profits". She crossed her arms and glared at them intimidatingly, then continued talking "If
people
learn about recharging electricity at home and stopped buying electricity from us, it would make us lose a lot of money, that's what makes me most concerned". She then
walked
towards the door, opened it and motioned them to leave. "We're absolutely not interested in this discovery. Goodbye" She snarled as she closed the door behind them with a loud bang.

The boys got on their hoverboards and made their way home, their hearts were so heavy with disappointment they wanted to cry. 'Doesn't anyone care about living on a clean, healthy, beautiful planet?' they thought to themselves.

Chapter 4 - The Sky is not the Limit

Leth tossed and turned in bed that
night
, he couldn't
sleep
, all he could think about was his amazing discovery - to be able to recharge Goops using light is the ability for near limitless electricity, to be able to harness the power of the stars! 'The stars? THE STARS! With unlimited energy we could power incredibly fast propulsion and travel off the planet and go anywhere in the universe!" Leth leapt out of bed and wanted to go tell Tigtig his new idea right away, but instead decided to get some rest as tomorrow would
certainly
be an action-packed day.

Sunrise couldn't come soon enough and Leth was knocking on Tigtig's door bright and early, he told his best friend his new idea and it didn't take much convincing to get him onboard. Tigtig was already buzzing with excitement for the opportunity to have an adventure amongst the stars and couldn't wait to get started.

"The first thing we
need
is a spaceship and powerful boosters that can go super-fast" Leth said to Tigtig hoping for some ideas. "If only we had a giant hoverboard the size of a
football
stadium with a door so that we can go inside" Tigtig replied. Leth looked at Tigtig with wide opened
eyes
and shouted "THAT'S IT! That's a brilliant idea! We will collect empty used Goops, recharge and sell them to make lots and lots of money then use that money to buy a custom made giant
sized
hoverboard!"

Over the next few months Leth and Tigtig
worked
relentlessly collecting used Goops from the scrapyard to recharge and sell. Every weekend and school holiday they would tirelessly go back and forth from the city dumps with empty Goops; then used home-made electromagnets that Tigtig learned how to make in science lessons to recharge them.

While they were in school, they shared their idea with everyone, and soon friends and teachers alike joined the team - especially the adventurous types.

They helped out with the Goop business whenever they could and
worked
together to build contraptions needed for space travel. It wasn't long before they made so much money, millions in fact, that they were ready to approach a hoverboard factory to
place
an order for the biggest hoverboard that the
world
has ever seen.

They wrote a letter with the specifications for their giant hoverboard to 'Topnotch Hoverboards Ltd', the biggest and best hoverboard company on the planet. Several days had passed before Leth got a phone call. "Hello, is that Mr. Leth?" the voice on the phone said, and before Leth could answer he continued talking "I'm a representative from Topnotch Hoverboards and we received your order for a giant Hoverboard".

The man's voice was jittery and he spoke extremely fast, "You specified that you wanted it to be one hundred and twenty metres long? And the whole of the outside plated with a layer of golden Goop? Is this correct?".

"Yes, I did order that, everything is correct, and how much would it cost?" responded Leth. "It's going to be very expensive and it will take several years to build" the man said, waiting for Leth to reply. "Will it be in the millions?" replied Leth. "No, much more, it will cost 7.9 billion".

Leth remained silent while he did some mathematics in his
head
, "we can pay you 100 million a month for 79 months" suggested Leth. "Yes, we can accept that arrangement, if you could be so kind to deposit the first instalment as soon as possible then we may begin construction".

They sealed the deal over the phone and ended the call. Leth thought about the long task ahead of him but it didn't deter him at all, he had his
eyes
on the prize and was ready to
work
hard
for it.

Chapter 5 - The Giant Golden Galactic Hoverboard

The months rolled by and soon turned into years, before long almost seven years had passed and the day the giant hoverboard would be finished was upon them. Today they would launch into space! Everyone was so excited; the team had grown bigger, it was now a hundred
people
of friends, family and teachers. Leth was standing alongside Tigtig, they both stood slightly in front of the rest of the team, he turned his
head
slightly and said to his best friend "We did it! We couldn't stop the
poo
and clean up the planet, but at least this is something". Tigtig looked at Leth and replied "I will
never
have to use that Excrement Extractor to clean up
poo
every morning again, that's definitely more than something!".

They both laughed as they watched the last bits of scaffolding being removed. "So, is this actually a spaceship?" queried Tigtig. "No Tig, it's not a spaceship, it's a spaceboard, an intergalactic spaceboard" Leth joked as he slapped his friend on the shoulder, "Let's go Tig! The scaffolding is off, it's ready!".

There was a
huge
roar from the crowd as they cheered the completion of the giant hoverboard. "Hip hip hurray!" everyone was overjoyed. And rightly so, because what a sight to behold! It was magnificent, a majestic structure of glistening gold - it took ten thousand flattened Goops to make enough plating to cover the entire thing.

Tigtig was noticeably excited, he looked at Leth and said "You know only 1 Goop can power an entire city for a day, we have 10,000 Goops covering this thing, all fully charged using sunlight! The magnetic superconductor propulsion system is going to be turbo charged and we are going to go so fast!". "Perfect" replied Leth. It wasn't long before the whole team was on board the Intergalactic Spaceboard, everybody was busy doing launch status checks and also making sure they had everything they needed.

The inside of the Spaceboard was even more amazing than the outside, it was
covered
with beautiful green plants from the floor to the ceiling. These were
special
genetically modified plants that produced more oxygen than regular plants, and they would provide the air to breathe.

There were also electrical gizmos everywhere - a
huge
assortment of machines that did a variety of things. They invented a
water
recycling machine; it was like a giant electric kettle that boiled all the waste liquids, such as
people's
wee, and collected the steam to be used as clean
water
.

There was a machine with a big trumpet shaped pipe that tunnelled into the wall and went outside; this was the Hydrogen Scoop and its purpose was to suck up hydrogen gas that can be found plentifully in space. The hydrogen could then be combined with oxygen to make
water
just in case they ran out; and there were hundreds of hover drones that would fly
around
watering the plants and could dispense cups of
water
for you to drink.

They had 3D printing machines that could print out edible
food
at the push of a button, warm delicious
food
straight onto your plate; this removed the
need
for packaging and you didn't even need to cook.

Everything was ready for take-off and all the checks were done, the excitement in everybody soon turned into nervousness as the countdown was soon to begin. Leth gathered everyone into the flight control room where there was an enormous computer.

Leth gave Tigtig a thumbs up and then turned to everyone to begin talking "I'm so glad that all of you are here with me today on this quest for a new home. I know it's a big risk because there may not be another planet out there that is as beautiful as our own
world
once was, before it got
covered
in
poo
, but we dare to chase that
dream
. You all made this
dream
a reality, let's do this!".

Leth flicked the switches and a robotic voice started talking on the loud speaker "10.. 9.. 8.. 7.. 6.. 5.. 4.. 3.. 2..1, Mag drives engaged". There was a gentle humming noise and the Spaceboard lifted off the
ground
, then suddenly, "BOOSH" it shot off towards space. It took only moments for the giant Spaceboard to be so high up that it looked like a little dazzling diamond in the sky, sparkling in the sunlight.

Everybody on board started celebrating; Tigtig was high-fiving all the
people
around
him, and then he turned
around
to Leth and said "If we do find a beautiful, blue and green planet to be our new home, let's try and keep it that way". Leth closed his
eyes
, took a deep breath, and nodded in agreement.
